Loads of wine cellars to find in Châteauneuf-du-PapeChâteauneuf-du-Pape is a village of 2.000 inhabitants located between Avignon and Orange that gave its name to the most famous wine appellation in the south of France. The unmissable "route des vins" brings you from the bank of the Rhône river through the tiny streets of the village up to the old castle towering 150 meters above. Many private estates in the village keep their cellar door open and take care of the entertainment for wine lovers passing by. For sure you drive away from the village with an unforgettable souvenir ... and a case of some gorgeous Châteauneuf-du-Pape. |

Claude Courtil worked hard to dig his cellar by the castleAs you are climbing up the village you will find a cellar that does not look like any other just before you reach the castle : Clos des Brusquières at Claude Courtil's. Claude, who is the godchild of famous Henri Bonneau dug his cellar by hand just underneath the castle ! A beautiful masterpiece that is worth the visit. The tube-shaped cellar gets smaller as you walk through it. Two rows of ageing tanks rest on both sides of the vault. Natural temperture, obscurity and humidity are ideal to a great ageing process. |

A family work for a fantastic cuvéeClaude Courtil, his wife Geneviève and their eldest son David work together for the best result. Thanks to some precious tips of his godfather Henri Bonneau, Claude manages to extract the magnificent tannins and aromas of the Grenache grape-variety, glory of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. At Clos des Brusquières, the on average 60 year old vine is planted on the hillside of Châteauneuf, near Cabrières and Mont-Redon. Here the clay-rich pebbles are particularily favourable to the production of full-bodied red wine. Claude Courtil produces a single cuvée also adding a little bit of white grape varieties in order to provide some finesse to the wine. Fantastic result ! |
