Domaine du Chapitre is a family-owned estate of 34 hectares located on the right bank of the Rhône river in the picturesque village of Saint-Marcel d'Ardèche.
This beautiful property is fairly unknown by professionals because the largest part of the production is reserved by a wholesaler in Burgundy who sells the wine under his own-labels.
35-year-old winegrower Frederic Dorthe runs the Domaine with skill and mastery. He is passionate about history, classical music and gastronomy. His soul is on a permanent quest for the ultimate satisfaction, something you immediately sense when you taste his wines ! |

...with some XVIIIth century style
Frederic endeavors to conserve the spirit of the 18th century on his domaine, the period during which his winemaking ancestors worked under the orders of Cardinal de Bernis and for the great pleasure of his entourage.
The ambiance of the period is found in the flowery surroundings of the property and in the interior of the house where the exposed stone walls and antique furniture suddently transport us back two and a half centuries !
Taking a close look at the wine labels, we are again transported by Frederic to a forgotten universe, a universe where "être ivre" (to be drunk) rhymes with "art de vivre". |

A high standard Côtes du Rhône Villages
Times have changed but the wine is still matured in the old cellars of the Cardinal's Castle in the heart of Saint-Marcel d'Ardèche.
The flagship of the Domaine is undoubtedly the Côtes du Rhône Villages produced at the low yield of 35 hl/ha. It is a well-balanced blending of slightly over-ripe Syrah and Grenache. The fermentation lasts more than 30 days with daily operations of punching of the cap and pumping over. Maturing takes place in concrete tanks for 80% of the volume and in oak barrels for the other 20%. The result is a great full-bodied wine with superb balance and length. |
