Cassis was France's first AOC
As well as Sauternes and Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Cassis AOC was established in 1936 and became the very first french "appellation contrôlée".
Although not being internationaly reknown, Cassis benefits from its wonderful location on the Mediterranean coast nearby Marseille.
In Cassis 12 winegrowers share the 180 hectares vineyard facing the sea and surrounded by impressive limestone cliffs.
For centuries Cassis has supplied it's old neighbour, Marseille, with its delicious and unique white wine that marries beautifully with tasty local fish. |

A vineyard of 7 hectares that descends from the crown
Don't look here for any descendants of Charlemagne. The estate takes its name from the limestone cliff overhanging the 7 hectares, evoking the crown of the famous Emperor.
Owner and winegrower Bernard Piche, a native of Cassis, aims every year to produce the best wine of the appellation and the most natural wine possible.
Yield remains below 40 hl/ha to obtain a good concentration while the manual grape picking ensures a high quality and a sound harvest. |

Cassis white wine is unique
The unique white wine, a blend of Marsanne, Clairette and Ugni Blanc, combines the fleshiness of a Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the freshness of a Côtes-de-Provence.
Bernard Piche recommends drinking its wine within its first two years accompanied by shellfish or any other seafood.
Up until today, distribution of Cassis white wine is essentially regional. Although the wine of Domaine Couronne de Charlemagne sells easily, Bernard Piche agrees to open up the export market.
