An outstanding situation by the Rhône mouth

Isle Saint-Pierre is a small island on the Rhône river between Arles and the Mediterranean. The 170 ha vines planted nearly a century ago on the island are deep-rooted in well drained soil comprised of sand and silt.
As this terroir shows many similarities to the Medoc area, grape varieties to be found here are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot for reds and Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Muscat for whites.
As a consequence wines from Domaine Isle Saint-Pierre are fine and subtle, unusual for the Mediterranean area more known for its rich and tannic wines.

sheep at Domaine Isle Saint-Pierre

A place where sheep and vines grow together

It was in 1927 that the grandfather of Patrick Henry, the current owner-manager, created the Domaine Isle Saint-Pierre after a first career as a wine merchant in Paris. Here he devoted himself to wine production and sheep raising. A few vines remain from that time as well as a flock of 200 sheep which provides all the manure needed to nourish the vines.
These strong, deep rooted and early fruiting vines enable the grape harvest to be completed around 15 september, before the arrival of the autumn rains. This offers the assurance of a healthy harvest and also a high level of consistency in the quality of the vintages.

A flat and loose ground ideal for mechanization

170 ha of uninterrupted flat and loose ground...the dream of every winegrower !
Patrick Henry knew his luck right away and began 30 years ago to mechanize wine production on his Domaine. Patrick Henry regularly travels to Australia and works in partnership with the machinery department of University of Bologna (Italy) to get acquainted with the best practices and apply them to his own property.
Pruning, ploughing, weeding, thinning and grape picking are all mechanized allowing Domaine Isle Saint-Pierre to offer the best prices for great quality.
