Winegrowing is here a very old tradition

The vines of Vignerons de la Vicomté are located in the Languedoc wine region, on a hilly area between Montpellier and Beziers called « plateau d'Aumelas » . The vines were planted here at first by the Greeks. Later, the Romans used to grow the vines around big estates called “villa” and they used to ship the wine in jars to the harbours all around the Mediterranean.
In the middle age, the local monk communities of Aniane and St-Guilhem-le-desert used to export the wine in northern Europe as they were respectively linked to the English and dutch crowns. As the canal du midi was built in the 18th century, the transport of the wine towards the atlantic coast was made easier, what allowed the shipment of the wine to America.

A strong merge and a huge vineyard of 7000 hectares

Nowadays, the villages of Vignerons de la Vicomté are built around the former roman “villa” and are peopled by winegrower families whose know-how has been transmitted from generation to generation for over 25 centuries. The history and the culture of this region, villages and people are completely associated with the history of their viticulture. With hot and dry summers and a chalky soil, the growing conditions are very difficult in this area and only vines and olive-trees are able to grow here. As the conditions were so extreme, the winegrowers decided to merge in order to be able to invest together in the cellars and equipment that would give them the possibility to produce and market wines with a strong terroir expression. Today, Vignerons de la Vicomté gathers winegrowers coming from 25 villages who grow together a huge vineyard of 7000 hectares.

Vicomté wine consumers are all around the world

A team of 13 oenologists supervises all the work from the vine planting down to the wine bottling. The best parcels are selected to be vinified separately with the best care in the 6 wineries of the groupment. Only the best cuvees are dedicated to the bottling at the property, 80% of the production being sold to the bulk trade.
Over 2 million bottles are distributed yearly through the traditional channel, 20% in France, 40% in Europe, 40% in the rest of the world.
Vignerons de la vicomté has recently invested in a brand new bottling facility fitted with the highest technology in order the carry on the sales development with both care for quality and customer satisfaction.
